China Campus Celebrates its 1st Anniversary on November 28 in Shanghai!

On November 28 in Shanghai, the China-based campus of L’Ecole de design Nantes Atlantique will celebrate its 1st anniversary with a series of design conferences and a cocktail party. The event is meant for people to share ideas and discover our Cross-Cultural design program.

After graduating from L’École de design in 2006 Coralie Raitière was soon taken on by L’Oréal at a challenging position. Let’s zoom on her student path…

On the 28th of November, in Shanghai, the China-based campus of L’École de design Nantes Atlantique will celebrate its 1st anniversary.

After 1 year of activity in China, the annual figures and facts of the China-based campus of L’École de design Nantes Atlantique speak for themselves:
- 750 Hours of class,
- 150 China-based teachers and professionals gathered in a strong network,
- 38 Master’s Degree students,
- 38 Four-month design internships in China-based companies,
- 35 Conferences on design and other related topics,
- 2 Major product design workshops with leading Chinese groups Hisense and Supor,
- 2 Active blogs on design and teaching,
- 1 Active online community group,
- And 1 Passion: Creativity!

To thank all the people that contributed to making the program a success, the China Campus of L’École de design Nantes Atlantique will set up a party in Shanghai. During an afternoon of design conferences and an evening of partying people will share ideas and get to know each other better.

A Training Course with a European Scope

Studying in our institution, says Coralie Raitière, taught her to “bring reflection into thinking up design projects” thanks to our solid project-grounded teaching method.

During her studies in design some of Coralie’s most enriching experiences were undoubtedly her internships abroad – London in her 4th year and Stockholm in her 5th. These mind-broadening exchange programs enabled her to hone her skills in graphic design and furniture design by working with talented professionals such as Michael Sodeau or Monica Förster.

With the former she learned to advertise a product by creating the lay-out of design catalogues; then she came up with an innovative lamp model, thus “re-thinking light via new materials.”

Along with the Swedish furniture designer who hired her as a trainee she learned how to approach design in a new sensitive, poetic, tactile manner and to spice up her creations with humorous hints. This agency’s leitmotiv was to “develop products doted with new functions and emotional qualities likely to brighten up our everyday life” (M. Förster). Broadening Coralie’s creative palette these significant encounters were helpful in building her successful career.

A Work-Oriented Training

Another landmark on her student path was her first internship, in her 3rd year. Working as a trainee within the Groupe Seb, a leading international house-ware company, gave Coralie the opportunity to discover the great diversity of the job and to become familiar with its many different aspects. She worked in collaboration with marketers and engineers on 3 different projects for 3 of the 5 brands run by the company – Moulinex, Krups, Tefal – supervised by 3 designers with different profiles. The young visual-designer-to-be soon grew a deep interest for the multidisciplinary and strategic dimensions of this key-profession; a stimulating experience which spurred her to explore new design territories.

After the degree…

After graduating from L’École de design Nantes Atlantique, Coralie was hired in an architecture agency whereby she furthered her skills in industrial design. Her now versatile profile appealed to L’Oréal Produits de Luxe International, who in March 2007 offered her a junior visual designer position.

Since then she has been designing retail spaces to promote the launching of new products for the group’s different brands (Lancôme, Giorgio Armani, Cacharel, among others).

Being well traveled and having a good command of the English language – assets which she developed during her studies at L’École de design – proved essential in her starting a successful career. This helped her dare to take up responsibilities within a leading company in the field of cosmetics, established all over the world.

"My internships in London and Stockholm aroused my curiosity and my desire to explore cultural diversity, all the while allowing me to step into the world of luxury products,” she says.
